Parliamentary Intergroup is formed, "Together for a commitment against cancer"

(Nicola Simonetti) Problems of the cancer planet. Over 3.300.000 Italians (5% of the population) live with a tumor which is expected to add 373.000 new cases (more than 1.000 per day) of cancer this year.

Each patient has collided and clashes with unequal treatment that originate different and often conflicting times and performance qualities.

To improve the situation, yesterday 23 October, in Rome, the new parliamentary Intergroup (present all Groups) arose "together for a commitment against cancer", which refers to the legislative agreement signed last February 7 between the 21 Associations of cancer patients of the project "Health: a good to be protected, a right to be promoted" and the political forces. A project conceived and coordinated by Salute Donna onlus: the largest health advocacy project ever carried out in Italy.

The meeting that officially seals the project was moderated by dr. Francesco Giorgino (TG 1).

"I now see the possibility of having a more mature and effective dialogue with the institutions that knows how to unhinge - says AM Mancuso, president of Salute Donna onlus - certain policies that still today, especially in some regions, make it difficult for people affected by cancer".

“The new Intergroup - says Undersecretary Garavaglia - could be an excellent interlocutor for better patient care and assistance. It will constitute a new moment of confrontation between politicians, health professionals, patients and caregivers who, during this Legislature, will promote very concrete and specific requests towards the Government aimed at protecting the rights of patients and their better care. ".

The Legislature Agreement will be implemented in one motion. This act of political orientation will engage the Government on the 15 points listed in the Agreement, reflecting the intentions of all the subjects participating in the project and will open up reflections on the useful tools to ensure the best management of the patients.

"Solidarity - adds Mancuso - has never been lacking, but I now see the possibility of having a more mature and effective dialogue with the institutions that knows how to undermine certain policies that still today - especially in some Italian regions - make the path of those affected difficult from tumor ".

In these years we have learned a lot about the territory and we believe we have acquired the skills and the flexibility to make us feel the right way at both national and regional level. We will also interact with the future Italian delegation to the next European Parliament to bring our requests, which will always be based on concrete problems, not least access to innovative therapies and the sustainability of health systems.

“The activation of pathology networks in the NHS in the Oncology and Hematology field, as carried out in Puglia - said prof. Giorgina Specchia, director of hematology with transplantation at the University of Bari polyclinic - is helping to optimize and standardize the diagnosis and treatment of all cancer patients in our country.

But the intentions and initiatives only work if they change into realizations in favor of the sick to guarantee every patient the best care available today in the world ".
