Palermo, on 18 and 19 July the school commemorates the XXVIII anniversary of the massacre in Via D'Amelio

Two days of demonstrations to commemorate Paolo Borsellino and the escort agents

A weekend of celebrations in Palermo, 18 and 19 July, dedicated by the Italian school to the memory of Judge Paolo Borsellino and agents Agostino Catalano, Emanuela Loi, Claudio Traina, Vincenzo Li Muli, Eddie Walter Cosina, twenty-eight years after their sacrifice in the massacre of Via D'Amelio, July 19, 1992.

Debates, shows, testimonies from the world of education, politics, associations, civil society, in the name of spreading the culture of legality among young people, following the example of all the heroes of the fight against the mafia. The celebrations are organized by the Ministry of Education, the “Paolo e Rita Borsellino” Study Center, the Municipality of Palermo, the Free University of Enna, the “Born to read - Sicily” Association.

“The school is at the forefront of defending the value of memory. A memory that plays a fundamental role in the fight against the mafia - declares the Minister of Education Lucia Azzolina -. The sacrifice of Paolo Borsellino, Giovanni Falcone, Francesca Morvillo and the men and women of their escorts marked the beginning of a phase of new awareness and intransigence, especially among young people. A change of which the school is the guardian and guarantor. Where there is school, there is a defense of legality and there is the state. We stand alongside teachers and all workers in the world of education, with commitment and gratitude, especially when they work in areas where the culture of legality among children must be built and defended on a daily basis ”.

Saturday July 18th, from 18 pm, the event "Resilience, Resistance, Responsibility" will take place in live streaming at the Tree of Peace in Via D'Amelio.

Sunday July 19th from 9 am, new appointment in Via D'Amelio (always visible in streaming), with "Via D'Amelio for tomorrow's citizens".

The live broadcasts will be broadcast on the Facebook page of the "Paolo e Rita Borsellino" Study Center.

During the morning of 19 July, the winners of the fifth edition of the competition "That fresh scent of freedom" will be awarded, aimed at gathering reflections on the theme of the legality of children of Italian schools of all grades. This year the topic "Freedom and childhood: open spaces, expressiveness, imaginative construction" was proposed to the children of the Infant and Primary School. Girls and boys of secondary schools of first and second grade instead dealt with the theme "Universal law and contingent laws: the inviolable rights of people".

The competition is part of the activities foreseen by the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education and the “Paolo e Rita Borsellino” Study, Research and Documentation Center for Sicily / Europe, recently renewed by the Head of the Department for human, instrumental and financial resources of the MI Giovanna Boda and the President of the Vittorio Teresi Study Center.

The final event of the celebrations, on the evening of 19 July, will be attended by forty children from the secondary school of the state level "Sandro Pertini" and from the Istituto Comprensivo "Giovanni Falcone", schools which recently received vandalism.
