Cigala Fulgosi patrol boat rescues 36 migrants aboard a boat about to sink

Cigala Fulgosi ship, a combat unit of the Italian Navy, part of Operation Mare Mare together with other Defense air and naval units, a mission assigned by the Government and the Parliament and aimed at protecting national interests in the central Mediterranean, is conducting presence activities, surveillance and deterrence, also due to the current security situation in Libya.

This unit is placed in particular to protect Capri from a distant ship, which is also part of Operation Mare Sicuro, which is moored in the port of Tripoli to provide technical-logistical assistance to the Navy and Libyan Coast Guard vehicles.

The unit is also to safeguard the Italian personnel present in Tripoli and the ENI extraction platforms present off the Libyan coasts.

Cigala Fulgosi ship this morning while carrying out the assigned mission, about 75 kilometers from the Libyan coast met a small boat, with 36 aboard people without life jackets, who embarked on water and was therefore about to sink and the people on board were in imminent danger of life.

In compliance with the stringent national and international regulations, the Cigala Fulgosi ship intervened saving the 36 occupants of the vessel, of which 2 women and 8 children for which the health conditions and relative identities are currently being tested, in close coordination with the competent national authorities.
