Perugia, meeting at the MiC for the recovery of the Citadel of Justice area

A meeting was held yesterday in Rome, at the Ministry of Culture, to take stock of the project for the Citadel of Justice in Perugia, which involves a significant re-functionalisation intervention of the real estate complex of the former men's prison, foreseen within a larger extensive program of the Ministry of Justice entrusted to the State Property Agency.

Present were, among others, the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano; the Chief of Staff of the MiC, Francesco Gilioli; the Director General of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, Luigi La Rocca; the Chief Secretariat of the Minister of Justice Carlo NordioGiuseppina Rubinetti; the Head of the Judicial Organization Department, Gaetano Campo; the architect Mario Botta and the Director of the State Property Agency, Alessandra dal Verme.

The recovery of the structure, which also involves the former women's prison and the Paradiso Pavilion, will constitute an opportunity for urban regeneration of the entire southern quadrant of the center of Perugia, thanks to the sequence of spaces which have remained inaccessible for decades and which will be opened to citizens.

During the meeting, the MiC welcomed the project proposals illustrated by architect Botta, sharing the lines of intervention and the architectural reflection on the complex presented by the designer.

"The Citadel of Justice project in Perugia represents a virtuous example of urban regeneration and functional recovery of state properties. The idea of transforming the former Perugia prison into a modern and functional judicial center is of great value. Architect Botta's project fits perfectly into the urban context and enhances the existing historical and architectural heritage, also creating a new public space that can be used by citizens”, stated Minister Sangiuliano.
