State Police and Italian Post Office renew the security agreement

State Police and Poste Italiane renew the collaboration agreement to guarantee the security of communications and postal services. Agreement signed between the Chief of Police-General Director of Public Security, Lamberto Giannini, and the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Matteo Del Fante with the Joint General Manager Giuseppe Lasco of Poste Italiane.

The traditional relationship of collaboration between the Postal and Communications Police of the State Police and the Italian Post Office, has allowed us to achieve excellent results over the years, also in the face of the profound change that has affected the type of services offered by the company and thanks to a consolidated operating model that has favored the development of important synergies. The rapid evolution of Poste Italiane's services towards digital has required a greater commitment in the field of financial crime prevention and the security of IT systems, an area in which the Postal and Communications Police provides a valuable contribution. In this sense, payment systems for e-commerce, financial and insurance services have assumed increasing importance and value, for which it was necessary to intensify the activity of control and updating of the security structures, both physical and computer science.

Specifically, the new agreement mainly concerns the prevention and repression of offenses, which involve products and production processes of the services offered by the Poste Italiane Group, the supervisory activities in post offices during scheduled payment periods, the creation of task-forces functional to the study of new scenarios of computer fraud, in continuity with what the State Police constantly ensures in all strategic sectors of the country, to protect essential services and fundamental rights of citizens.

Equally important is collaboration in the field of cybersecurity: for the company, in fact, the Internet is the main platform for the use of its services and, therefore, maximum commitment to ensure adequate levels of IT security. This is made possible also thanks to the precious help of the Postal Police, which is responsible for protecting the networks and IT infrastructure of the company while ensuring consultancy and support to prevent critical events.

Particular attention is therefore paid to protecting users and raising awareness of the use and management of financial services, especially on the web. The Italian Post Office and the Postal Police have thus started a collaboration also on the information front in order to reduce risks and crimes such as the improper use of credit cards, phishing, acquisition of sensitive personal data, computer fraud and scams.

The collaboration between the Postal Police and the Italian Post Office, ratified by the renewal of the agreement, is necessary to guarantee a complete protection activity in the field of communications and financial services, in the awareness that security is not only repression of criminal phenomena but also the definition of a strategy that provides for joint and systematic actions to successfully tackle the problems potentially harmful to the community.

Also present at the meeting for the signing of the agreement were for the Department of Public Safety, Prefect Daniela STRADIOTTO, Central Director for the Traffic, Railway, Communications Police and for the Special Departments of the State Police, Dr. Antonio BORRELLI, General Manager of Public Security and Dr. Ivano GABRIELLI, Director of the Postal and Communications Police Service; for Poste Italiane Dr. Vanes MONTANARI, Head of the Corporate Protection function and Dr. Alessio BIFARINI, Head of the Physical Security function.
