State Police: "Movida" operation

The State Police is carrying out in Lecce and in the province the delayed arrest of some subjects, several of which contiguous to the clans of the local organized crime, held responsible for the crime of dealing in cocaine-type drugs.

The investigations by the Lecce Mobile Squad and the Central Operational Service of the State Police, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office - Lecce Anti-Mafia District Directorate, were launched last July, with the contribution of the Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services and the Scientific Police.

The illegal activity was consumed by the suspects both in the city center of the capital of Salento and in various seaside resorts of the province even in renowned clubs.

The operation is part of the "PUSHER 3" project, which relaunched the use of undercover drug purchase agents, delaying the arrest of drug dealers responsible for the sale.

The use of the undercover intervention, also through the use of hidden cameras, has allowed to reveal, in just 30 days, the dense network of drug dealing present in many 4 nightclubs, allowing to collect serious elements of evidence against the subjects arrested, some of them contiguous to the clans of local organized crime.

Administrative procedures initiated by the Lecce Police Department for the closure pursuant to art. 100 TULPS of the 4 public premises concerned.

Details on the operation will be provided at the press conference to be held this morning at 12: 00 at the Lecce Police Headquarters.
