State Police: Octopus operation against organized crime. Three arrests

This morning, in Latina, the Mobile Squads of Latina and Rome, together with personnel from the Central Operational Service of the State Police, carried out a precautionary custody order issued by the Rome GIP at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Rome in the against three people residing in the south of Pontine, held in various capacities responsible for the crimes of attempted extortion and acts of unlawful competition, crimes aggravated by the mafia method.

The investigative developments have made it possible to reveal a context of high criminal depth aimed at imposing, through repeated threats, a monopoly regime in the retail marketing of fish products in the Latina and Cisterna di Latina markets.

In fact, through the investigations of the Central Operations Service and the Mobile Teams of Latina and Rome, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Rome, the main architect of the extortion activities for some time consumed within the weekly fish markets of Rome emerged. Latina and Cisterna, that is to say a fish entrepreneur who ended up in prison today.

The latter, in his retail sale of fish products at the aforementioned markets, with the collaboration of one of his employees - who ended up under house arrest today - from 2019 to date has systematically intimidated a fish retailer, in an attempt to make him leave the markets of Latina and Cisterna di Latina, forcing him, among other things, to sell his products below cost.

A further boost to the investigative activity was offered by the self and hetero accusatory statements of two justice collaborators who provided valid elements capable of bringing out, again within the aforementioned markets of Latina and Cisterna di Latina, episodes of attempted extortion and illicit competition that took place between 2016 and 2018, committed with violence and threats aggravated by the mafia method.

The investigations thus shed full light on the ways in which the fish entrepreneur arrested this morning tried to acquire, within the Latina and Cisterna di Latina markets, a position of economic supremacy vis-à-vis other commercial competitors, attempting through the pride of the "mafia protection" of forcing them both to make economically disadvantageous choices and to close and abandon the fish counter, all to benefit their business.

In particular, he had hired the two current collaborators of justice - at the time of the events leading exponents of the DI SILVIO clan - through the intermediation of a well-known member of the D'ALTERIO di Fondi family to intimidate a competing entrepreneur, who in other circumstances was explicitly threatened by making constant and repeated reference to the D'ALTERIO family, known for the criminal weight of its members also because of their judicial precedents, able to take retaliatory actions against property and people, being able to count on a network of contacts with criminal circles in Campania and with members of Camorra clans.
