About 800.000 people checked, 222 arrested and 2.162 under investigation: the balance of the activities of the State Police in railway stations in the summer period

796.261 identified, 222 arrested and 2.162 investigated, over 13 kg of drug seized including cocaine, heroin and hashish: this is the balance of the checks of the Railway Police in the summer period (from 1 June to 31 August).

In the period affected by the holiday trips, 47.404 patrols were employed in the stations, and 7.740 on board the train, for a total of 15.910 trains attended. 2.933 anti-pocketing services, 1.760 high penalties, 521 foreigners tracked down in an irregular position and 384 unaccompanied minors tracked down by the staff of the Specialty and returned to their families or placed in the community.

9 days of extraordinary control organized by the Railway Police Service throughout the national territory in the summer period of which: 3 “safe stations” operations, with an overall intensification of services in the railway stations (35.408 people checked, 16 arrested, 79 under investigation); 3 “rail safe day” operations for the prevention of improper and dangerous behavior (1.805 sensitive locations manned, 112 high penalties); 3 “red gold” operations to combat the phenomenon of copper theft (1.372 checks carried out, over 2 tons of copper of illicit origin found).

In addition to these initiatives, on 2 and 3 July, the "Rail Action Day Active Shield" operation organized at an international level by the RAILPOL European railway and transport police association, which also includes the Italian railway police (1.442 operators involved throughout Italy, in 446 stations; approximately 1.900 trains manned, 12.240 people checked, 19 those arrested or reported and 2.270 checked baggage).

Among the main results:

In Milan, a 37-year-old Algerian citizen was arrested for aggravated robbery. The man, after stealing a camera from a crew that was working outside the train station, was blocked by policemen. The foreigner, who after the theft fled, once reached, hit the operators with kicks and punches. The stolen goods, intact, have been returned to the owner.

Also in Milan, in the Rogoredo station, a 25-year-old Algerian and a 19-year-old Libyan were arrested for theft. The policemen, after being alerted by the operations room, about a traveler who, on board a train arriving in Rogoredo, had suffered the theft of his laptop from his backpack by two foreigners, upon the arrival of the train in station, they blocked and arrested the two criminals still in possession of the stolen goods, which was returned.

In San Benedetto del Tronto, Polfer agents arrested a 46-year-old Italian wanted for aggravated theft. The man, struck by illness, asked for help from the policemen engaged in surveillance inside the station, who immediately asked for the intervention of a crew of the

first aid room. From the investigations carried out on the traveler, while he was undergoing medical treatment, it emerged that a prison order was pending against him, issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Trani having to serve a sentence of 6 months in prison. Having resolved the health problems, the man was associated with the Ascoli Piceno prison.  

Three North African citizens were arrested in the Roma Termini station for multiple theft in competition. The Polfer agents, already alerted of their presence in the railway yard by the staff in charge of viewing the video surveillance cameras, noticed the three foreigners stealing a backpack resting on a step outside the station and then running away. Blocked, they were arrested, while the bag, containing a laptop, a camera, a tablet, headphones and other items, with a declared value of between 3.000 and 4.000 dollars, was returned to its rightful owner, an Argentine tourist.

In Naples, at the end of an investigation, the Polfer operators carried out an order of custody in prison, issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples, against a 39-year-old Italian, seriously suspected of the commission of a theft with tear occurred the month before outside the train station. On that occasion the suspect, aboard a motorcycle, approached a woman, taking her by surprise and snatching her cell phone from her hands. From the detailed description provided by the victim and the man, already known to the police, was identified by the police thanks to some images that portrayed him the day after the snatch wearing the same clothes and the same helmet.

Among the stories with a happy ending:

That of a 22-year-old from Lucca who left home with suicidal intentions. The girl, thanks to the accurate description given by the relatives to the investigators, was tracked down by the agents while wandering aimlessly in the center of the tunnel. Tranquilized and accompanied to the Polfer offices, she was then entrusted to the care of her parents.

That of a 10-year-old boy who was found alone on board a convoy on the Ventimiglia - Genoa route. The boy, of Moroccan origin, told the policemen that he had left home, unbeknownst to his parents, with the intention of going to visit some of his friends in Albenga. Contacted the family, unaware of the departure, she rushed to the station in Savona where she was able to hug her son again.

That of a 65-year-old woman from Foggia saved by the Polfer di Foggia after being seized by a heart attack while she was waiting to leave for the North with her husband and daughter. In particular, the agents, attracted by the cries of other travelers, immediately went to the platform sidewalk and, seeing the unconscious woman collapsed on the ground, with the help of a Trenitalia driver, they began life-saving resuscitation maneuvers. , using a defibrillator supplied with the Polfer Section and practicing mouth-to-mouth respiration. Thanks to the prompt intervention of the operators, the unfortunate woman resumed breathing spontaneously. In the meantime, the 118 health workers arrived and transported the 65-year-old, in red code, to the Ospedali Riuniti in Foggia. The lady is out of danger.
