In the Foggia stage, two officers of the polstrada and a coordinator of the direction of the Bari branch of ASPI were awarded

With the start of the Giro d'Italia, the awards for the "Heroes of Safety" also return, an initiative now in its tenth year and born from the collaboration between the State Police and Autostrade per l'Italia to enhance the work of the highway agents and every day they guard the roads on the high-flow arteries along the country.

Today at the start of the eighth stage of the cycling competition, Foggia-Guardia Sanframondi, Autostrade per l'Italia presented an award to the Superintendent Giuseppe Bernardi and the Assistant Chief Simone Lippolis, on duty at the Palagiano Motorway Subsection of the Bari Road Compartment , for having assisted a motorist in a strong state of agitation. The Traffic Police also celebrated with an acknowledgment the commitment shown in his work to Michele di Genova, Information and Traffic Control Coordinator of the Bari Trunk Directorate of Autostrade per l'Italia, for the promptness and speed with which he rescued a seriously injured woman who was lying between the emergency lane and the driving lane, facilitating the arrival of medical aid and restoring the road system quickly.

On the morning of 4 September 2020 the patrol of the Bari Traffic Police, composed of the Superintendent Giuseppe Bernardi and the Assistant Chief Simone Lippolis, was contacted by the Operations Room which informed them that along the A14 a vehicle, stopped in the lane on a stretch two-way traffic, was blocking the road system. On board the car was a woman in a state of confusion and strong agitation. Arriving on the spot, the policemen, after reassuring the woman and making her safe, intervened to clear the roadway and drain the traffic. The traffic police patrol then escorted the woman to the Taranto barrier, making sure she arrived safely at her destination.

On 28 August 2020 at approximately 22:15 pm, Michele was returning from summer holidays with his family and was traveling along the A14 Bologna-Taranto when, near Km 582, between Cerignola Est and Foggia Zona Industriale towards Pescara, he noticed in in the distance several vehicles stopped between the emergency lane and the driving lane with the four arrows lit. Sensing the possible danger for the users who arrived, Michele contacted the Radio Information Center of Bari to receive information on the incident. Once at the site of the event, the operator noted the presence of a seriously injured woman on the ground. The woman, who was traveling on a heavy vehicle with her partner, had gone down to the lay-by and had been hit by a passing vehicle. The operator rescued the lady by taking her to the side of the pitch, then contacted the Radio Information Center to coordinate the intervention of the medical aid and the Traffic Police, allowing the woman to be rescued.

During the various stages of the major national cycling race, the sports awards stage this year hosts 18 operators of the Traffic Police, with whom ASPI works in close collaboration on a daily basis to ensure the safety of users traveling on the motorways. At the same time, the Traffic Police will award recognition along the stages from South to North of Italy to 10 Autostrade per l'Italia operators who have shown a strong dedication to their work, putting at the service of users skills and commitment that go far beyond their daily tasks.
