The activity, directed by the Turin Public Prosecutor's Office and coordinated by the National Center of Contrast to Online Child Pornography of the Postal and Communications Police Service of Rome, involved the whole national territory by engaging 15 Compartments and 24 Sections in the search operations.

The survey is the result of a fruitful international synergic collaboration with the Canadian National Child Exploitation Coordination Center (NCECC) which has allowed users of a well-known instant messaging platform to find behaviors in violation of the portal rules integrating the offenses of possession and distribution of child pornography.

Illegal material was found to be very diversified, going from photos that represented nude scenes to others with creepy content, portraying real sexual violence where the victims were often babies; in some cases the presence of self-produced material in the family was found.

In some images animals were involved and sadistic practices adopted, which allowed, using a protocol of categorization of illegal material shared internationally, to create a real profiling of criminals based on the tastes expressed and the methods of interaction Network.

On the same platform, at the time of the facts, a subject already arrested a few months earlier by the Turin Postal Police Department in the context of another investigation into online child pornography shared self-produced material.

The Postal Police isolated the position of the individual nicknames by recovering the shared material for each of them and extrapolating the IP connections useful for the continuation of the investigations.

At that point a long and widespread investigation activity made of OSINT research and a real virtual shadowing allowed to give a name to the nicknames used by pedophiles on the net, bringing them out of the net and out of anonymity.
