Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador meets Eni's CEO Claudio Descalzi

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi met yesterday in Mexico City. The meeting, which took place in the presence of the Minister of Energy Rocío Nahle, discussed the important operational activities, present and future, of Eni in the country.

Particular emphasis was given to the 1 Area (Eni 100%), located in the offshore of the State of Tabasco, from which production began last June from the Miztón field. This is the first production obtained from contracts awarded as part of the energy reform in Mexico.

Eni is currently producing approximately 1 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boeg) from the 10.000 Area and expects to reach an 100.000 boeg plateau in the first half of the 2021.

Eni has also planned an important exploration campaign in the other seven blocks it holds in Mexico, which will begin with the drilling of two wells operated in the 2019.

The Eni CEO also proposed to President Obrador a series of renewable energy and circular economy projects that Eni could carry out in the country, which are in line with the government's strategy and priorities for sustainable and low carbon development. In particular, green refineries and forest conservation projects were discussed.

Finally, Eni's strong commitment in Mexico to social issues was underlined, with ongoing projects or projects in particular with the local communities of the State of Tabasco.

In a separate meeting, Eni also met Octavio Romero Oropeza, CEO of Pemex, with whom he discussed further forms of collaboration between the two companies in the 1 Area, as well as other opportunities, aimed at increasing the production of the country exploiting Eni's proprietary technologies and its operational model aimed at efficiency and control, with low operating costs. In particular, the issues of bio-refineries and alternative energy forms to feed refineries and other plants were touched on, in order to increase gas supplies for the domestic market.

Eni is present in Mexico by the 2006 and in the 2015 it has set up its subsidiary Eni Mexico S. de RL de CV, which currently holds investments in eight blocks (of which six as operator), all located in the Sureste basin in the offshore of the Gulf of Mexico.
