A three-year collaboration agreement, to promote the social reintegration of prisoners through training courses and support the most destitute. This is the objective of the Memorandum of Understanding signed today by the head of the Department of Penitentiary Administration, Carlo Renoldi and by the director of the Customs, Excise and Monopoly Agency, Marcello Minenna.
The agreement will allow on the one hand groups of prisoners to attend the Customs Agency laboratories, developing professional skills that can also be used on the market, and on the other hand it will allow the reuse of goods confiscated even from organized crime: basic necessities, such as clothing and footwear, will go to the most destitute inmates, while wood, textiles and other materials can be used in industrial processes carried out in prisons, as is already the case for migrant boats transformed into musical instruments.
"This is a very important initiative: with the reuse of assets of criminal origin, destined for the prison administration, the value of legality is reaffirmed on the one hand, and the constitutional principles of solidarity and social reintegration are concretely implemented on the other.
