The Council of Ministers approved ten bills to ratify and execute nine international agreements and an exchange of notes relating to international cooperation in space, defense, military and technical matters. This was announced by a press release from the Council of Ministers. As Nova reports, among the most significant are an agreement with the Kenyan government relating to the Luigi Broglio space center, in the Kenyan city of Malindi, done in Trento on 24 October 2016. The main agreement and the five "technical" implementation protocols aim to define a model of understanding that provides for a wide-ranging collaboration in the space sector, set on a mutually beneficial basis between the two countries. The agreements in question also include an agreement between the Italian government and Republic of Chad on cooperation in the Defense sector, signed the 26 in July 2017 in Rome, and an agreement with the Government of the Republic of Korea on cooperation in the defense sector, dating back to 17 October 2018.
Also in the defense sector, there was an agreement between the Italian Ministry of Defense and the Secretariat of National Defense and the Secretariat of the Navy of the United Mexican States on cooperation in the defense acquisitions sector, made in Mexico City on August 17, 2018. The agreements and the exchange of notes subject to ratification, the statement reads, are intended to establish the legal framework within which to develop bilateral cooperation between the Italian armed forces and those of other countries, with the aim of consolidating respective defensive capabilities and to improve mutual understanding on security issues. The signing of these deeds, concludes the note, must be understood as a stabilizing action in various areas of particular strategic value and good political value, considering the national interests and international commitments undertaken by Italy.
