Royal Navy, new Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier comes to Portsmouth base

The new flagship of Her Majesty's fleet, the aircraft carrier 'Hms Queen Elizabeth', entered the Royal Navy naval base in Portsmouth for the first time. In a ceremony, Prime Minister Theresa May from the deck of the ship spoke of "pride of the British navy" in the face of the great challenges for international security. The launch of the Queen Elizabeth took place last June in the Scottish fjord of Rosyth, which was followed by the first tests in the open sea. Costing 6 billion pounds, the new flagship of the Royal Navy, whose fleet has seemed to be slowing down in recent years, is the largest unit ever built for the navy. Its take-off deck is as big as three football fields and at full speed the ship - 65.000 tonnes - will be able to accommodate a crew of 1000 people and 40 aircraft. It is also the first aircraft carrier produced by the United Kingdom for the Royal Navy since 2010. The ship will be fully operational in 2023.
