According to news from the Nova agency, the experts of the Russian Civil Initiatives Committee, led by former Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, found a high number of candidates in the presidential elections next March. However, the institution's analysts believe that the role of parties in the process is marginal. "The development of the formal legal procedures" went smoothly and the activities of the Central Electoral Commission (Cec) went smoothly.

The report "The nomination of candidates for presidential elections in Russia scheduled for March 18, 2018", published on the Committee's website, is the first in a series of reports on monitoring the electoral campaign "underway in Russia.

The authors of the study examined data on the number of candidates compared to previous presidential campaigns, as well as the weight of the self-employed on the overall structure of the candidates for the office and the staff composition of the support groups. During the first phase of the electoral campaign, the candidates who presented the necessary documents for the nomination were nominated.

Support groups or party representatives approved by candidates for the management of financial issues were also approved. Candidates were allowed to open a special electoral current account. The presidential elections will be held on 18 next March.
