Primary school, Valditara intervenes at the Turin Book Fair

“Italy is sixth in the world for reading and understanding texts. Our young people have a great interest in books”. “A reason for satisfaction on the occasion of the Book Fair. Reading a paper text means confronting an author and reflecting deeply"

"On the opening day of the Turin Book Fair, it is a source of great satisfaction to mention what is reported by the most recent survey by the International Association for the Evaluation of Scholastic Performance”, declared the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara: “Italy is in sixth place in the world (after Singapore, Hong Kong, Finland, Poland and Sweden) for reading and text comprehension skills in pupils in the fourth year of primary school. This data bears witness to the extraordinary role of the often mistreated Italian school, but also to the great interest in books that characterizes young people in our country".

The Minister continued: “At a time when artificial intelligence and digital technology play an increasingly important role, which obviously needs to be valued and governed, we cannot forget the fundamental contribution that books make to the education of every young person. Reading a book means dealing with an author: the paper document forces us to reflect and think deeply that stimulates our imagination in a fruitful comparison with the ideas of the other. Faced with navigating the ocean of the Internet, the book is an indispensable staple for the training of our children".
