See Naples and then die

(by John Blackeye) The news of the last hours records an excellent initiative of the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca addressed to the prefect of Naples. A request aimed at favoring the preparation of a massive control service by the police and the armed forces in some realities where there are high peaks of contagion and where people continue to leave the house even if not strictly necessary.

In essence, at least 300 more soldiers are required in the request in support of the police force. What you can't do with messages may be possible with deterrence.

We really hope that the very warm people of Campania (a very small part) become aware of the emergency and that this commendable and umpteenth initiative of the President of the Region, which is embedded in a mosaic of numerous other initiatives, can be effective and decisive. Apparently De Luca no longer knows what else to do: his video interventions have now gone viral on social networks, very colorful and direct.

Goethe he was so impressed with the beauty of the city of Naples that he invented a phrase or an invitation, which for us Italians then became a real proverb: "SEE NAPLES AND THEN DIE". With this, the great German writer he did not intend to wish anyone death but simply would have liked to remind all humanity that before dying one should have seen Naples at least once.

We can all imagine the varied Neapolitan stage that had struck the heart of the writer who, perhaps, opening the window of his hotel, in the early morning, had discovered a clear sky that served as a backdrop to the Sun always present and ready to warm the days of the Neapolitans who move like busy ants in their daily activities.

Noisy crowds of street vendors and buyers who roam the colorful houses in the center that host open-air stalls.

Who screams on one side, who screams on the other. The children play in the center of the square while the adults do what they have to do, no one knows what exactly, but the south and the Neapolitan in particular always have something to do.

Someone, gesturing conspicuously, is holding a speech out loud with a person who is listening to him smiling. It seems that on one side there is the actor on the stage and on the other there is a single pleased spectator. And in speaking, the first one screams not because his interlocutor is deaf but because this type of communication serves to convince his neighbor to be right about everything while on the other hand, tone of voice and mimicry, they aim to involve in the matter , if possible, other interested parties, even unknown, so that that comparison can become the justification for a day spent without work, in an alley in the Neapolitan city. Those same alleys, many and all the same, that from the early hours of dawn until sunset, observe the passage of hundreds of Neapolitans who move frantically from one side to the other.

The women from the balconies give directions to the children while the elderly, immobile in their position as observers, dispense often very colorful advice and criticisms.

This is the Naples of the Sun, of the beautiful people outdoors, of the noise and confusion that must have captivated Goethe. But, unfortunately, this is also Naples which in some areas - and we are in full pandemic - presented itself under the eyes of a troupe of journalists sent by a national news program.

Someone could object: "Embè, this was the Naples of the past and this is the Naples of the present, nothing has changed, live the traditions ".

To this observation we could also add an applause followed by a great accompanying smile, because it is true that this is Naples.

Unfortunately, it seems - and the facts speak - that the Ordinances and Decrees of the President of the Council of Ministers have stopped in "Eboli" and that a small part of Naples has not really arrived. Yet, Campania also registers almost 2 thousand infected and has dozens of deceased.

The point is that, despite the proclamations of the President of the Campania Region, it is not possible to make it clear to a small part of the population that this time, disobedience could cost the whole city and the whole Region dear.
