The missile, launched near the port of Wonsan, would have traveled about 450 kilometers reaching a maximum altitude of 910 kilometers before arriving in the Sea of Japan.

The launch, which took place in the aftermath of Pyongyang's announcement of talks next Saturday with Washington on nuclear issues, aroused the ire of Tokyo which considered the act a significant escalation from the short-range tests conducted since May.

"Such acts (...) do not help to ease tensions on the Korean peninsula and we urge once again to end immediately“, Added the South Korean army.

In fact, it would be the first time that a missile has been fired from a North Korean submarine since August 24, 2016.

According to Seoul, it would be a “Pukguksong-1 ″ missile, or a sea ballistic missile (SLBM), launched from a submarine and currently developed by North Korea.
