In a note, the general secretary of the SIM Guardia di Finanza, Cleto Iafrate commented on the Sea-Watch story:
"Without entering, on the merits of the controversy concerning the Sea Watch case - the judgments will be expressed in the competent seats - I welcome with satisfaction the demonstration of Minister Salvini's proximity to the soldiers of the Lampedusa Finance Police engaged in a very delicate activity in the spotlight of the national press.
That said, given that the League seems to be the only political force that has not yet communicated its thoughts on military trade unions, the opportunity is undoubtedly propitious.
The League let us know - and maybe show us - if it is on the side of the rights of citizens in uniform or on the side of those reactionary forces that are trying to sabotage unionization with legislation that puts trade unions on the leash of military leaders ".
