The State Police arrested smuggler who was driving a rescue boat from the NGO Open Arms

The State Police of Trapani, yesterday afternoon, arrested in Bari, in execution of a precautionary custody order issued by the GIP of the Court of Trapani, at the request of the local prosecutor, the smuggler who, on 10 November last, was driving one of the rafts rescued by the NGO Open Arms off the Libyan coast.

The makeshift vessel, which had about 90 people on board, was joined by the rescue boat on which, subsequently, all the migrants who were piled on it were embarked.

The men of the Flying Squad of the Trapani Police Headquarters, at the end of grueling testimonial examinations of various foreign citizens and further investigative investigations, had come to the identification of the driver of the boat.

The reconstructions carried out through the testimonies of refugees, of various nationalities, who had told the vicissitudes of their journey and allowed to collect significant evidence against the suspect, were decisive.

Yesterday afternoon, the epilogue of the affair, when the investigators of the Trapani police headquarters, in collaboration with his colleagues from Bari, tracked him down and took him to prison.

The young smuggler, a XNUMX-year-old of Sudanese origin, is accused of aiding and abetting aggravated illegal immigration.
