They are better than Italians, immigrant entrepreneurs, + 65%

According to a survey carried out by ABI, in five years the small business area with foreign ownership has grown by 65%. If in 2010 the current accounts held by foreign entrepreneurs amounted to 74.237, in 2015 they were 122.494, showing an average annual growth rate of 10,5%. Equal to 4,9% of the total number of immigrant account holders, current accounts with more than 5 years of seniority in the name of foreign entrepreneurs represent 37% of the total (18% in 2010), indicating a growing stability in the relationship with the bank. One in three current accounts is in the name of women. This is what emerges from the survey by the National Observatory on the Financial Inclusion of Migrants, at the end of the fourth year of activity. And the immigrant population, the report notes, is increasingly active in self-employment and in small and medium-sized businesses. “A complex and growing phenomenon that of businesses created by migrants in Italy, to be seen in the broader context of the regular presence of foreigners on the territory, and which is proving capable of contributing to the country's economy. The data that arouses the greatest attention is that relating to female entrepreneurship, a growing phenomenon as confirmed by the report edited by CeSPI. Businesses with an entrepreneur at the top represent approximately 32% of the small business area with a foreign owner (in 2011 they were 27%), recording in the last 4 years higher growth rates (on average by 5 percentage points) than the average for the entrepreneurial segment immigrant as a whole. In terms of geographic distribution, the report confirms, as regards entrepreneurial activity, a greater concentration of current accounts at bank branches in Northern Italy (67%); 23% of entrepreneur account holders are concentrated in the Center, 10% in the South (an increase compared to the 6% recorded in 2011). From the point of view of national identity, the communities with the highest incidence of small business accounts on the total of current accounts held by immigrant citizens come from China (15,1%), Bangladesh (8,7%), Pakistan (8,3 %), and Egypt (4,4%). Between 2014 and 2015, the communities with the greatest increases in business ownership came from Nigeria (+ 38%), Senegal (+ 37%), Bangladesh (+ 34%).
