The European Border and Coast Guard Agency - Frontex has arranged, starting from this year, to send personnel of the so-called Standing Corps to the external borders of the Member States of the European Union, to support the border personnel in operations related to document checks, border surveillance, coast guard activities and identification and return procedures.

Precisely in relation to this last aspect, Frontex, with the consent of the Central Directorate of Immigration and the Border Police, has deployed, for the first time at the Fiumicino airport, a team of Forced Return Escort and Support Officers (FRESO ), made up of 10 Standing Corps operators and 1 coordinator.

The team offers operational support to Fiumicino staff, acting under the coordination of the latter, in transit and repatriation operations of foreigners who are recipients of expulsion measures adopted by Italy or other Member States and, exceptionally, can be used in escort on board the aircraft.

Before being employed, the team members receive specialized online training and are initiated on a 2-week course at the Institute for Inspectors of Neptune.

Fiumicino airport is the first European airport where a team of repatriation operators from the Frontex Standing Corps operates.
