France, under the table, supports Haftar for taking Tripoli

According to sources close to General Haftar, reports The Libyan Observer, French officials have assured the Libyan general their support to take and control Tripoli.

The Arab newspaper wrote that Haftar met with French officials, including the foreign minister, on the sidelines of the November 12-13 conference in Palermo, discussing his intent to advance militarily on Tripoli and, therefore, to receive the approval of French in the following days.

"Haftar understood that France would support its military operations in Tripoli and that it would receive funds and political support, as happened in Benghazi and Derna". Sources claim that Haftar, "has already begun to lay down some military plans for operations, thanks to the French green light". Haftar and his army have always spoken in the past of carrying out a military operation to control and liberate Tripoli.

"France has tried to urge regional powers to support Haftar in his advance in the Libyan capital as otherwise it could be seen as a coup." Sources explain that France supported Haftar's initiative saying it would also urge the UN Security Council to partially remove the arms ban on Libya to allow military forces to be more equipped for the final battle.

France has always been involved in Haftar's alleged war on terror in Benghazi and the rest of the eastern region, with many reports revealing that he even had men on the ground in Libya to fight side-by-side with Haftar's forces in Benghazi. France also offered air support to the strongman militias of Cyrenaica for the capture of Derna and Benghazi.
