Listed among the top 100 in the world for computing power and performance, the supercomputer is installed in Genoa

With the baptismal name davinci-1, with the double reference to the genius of the Renaissance and to society, Leonardo's new supercomputer installed in the Fiumara Tower in Genoa was born, a symbol of technological innovation and development in Italy and in Europe. Immediately included among the top 100 supercomputers in the world, according to the TOP 500 ranking, and on the podium of the A&D (Aerospace & Defense) sector, davinci-1 is made with the technological partnership of Atos and boasts the latest generation NVidia A100 accelerators.

It will count on a battery of over 100 supercomputing units, for a total computing power exceeding 5PFlops - 5 million billion floating point operations per second - with a high-performance network and a storage system made by DDN, equipped with the latest hardware and software technologies, for a storage capacity of the order of 20Pbytes (20 million Gigabytes). With davinci-1 Leonardo will be able to accelerate on disruptive technologies that represent the present and future of innovation: Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Intelligent System, Big Data Analytics, High Performance Computing, Electrification of Aeronautical Platforms, Materials and Structures and Quantum Technologies.

The supercomputer represents a jewel in the Italian HPC panorama, a knowledge accelerator able to enhance the industrial digitization process with direct repercussions for competitive development, not only for the company but for the country. This is why Leonardo created the Corporate Research Program, created through the Leonardo Labs, including that of Genoa, which will be a pole of attraction for young researchers of international origin. After the evaluation of about a thousand young people, 68 will be selected and inserted in the network of Labs, to feed a continuous flow of talents and ensure flexibility, both in terms of skills and professional skills, based on a model adopted on an international scale.
