Tireless Aeronautica Militare continues the commitment to emergency fires in Sicily

From the air base of Trapani Birgi, headquarters of the 37 ° Stormo, continues the engagement of the 80 ° CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) CSP in Decimomannu (Cagliari) in the fight against fires throughout Western Sicily. In these hours a HH-212 helicopter is engaged in firefighting activities in the Castellammare del Golfo (TP) area.

The 80 ° Center helicopter has been deployed for more than 10 days on the Trapanese base in order to integrate and support the device in place to deal with the fire emergency in the provinces of Trapani and Palermo. From the COA (Operations Command) of Poggio Renatico (FE), through the Operation Room of the 82 ° Centro CSAR in Trapani, the crews get ready for the take-off order and the intervention area. The HH-212 firefighting contrast action often coincides with that of the Canadair aircraft, always risked in Trapani.

Numerous interventions have been made so far to stop the flames that have destroyed thousands of hectares of vegetation in the areas of Carini (PA), Castellammare del Golfo (TP), San Vito Lo Capo (TP) and the renowned Zingaro Natural Reserve (TP). In some cases the flames have housing and accommodation facilities, causing a few inconveniences to holidaymakers forced to evacuate the area quickly.

The 80th Center is one of the Departments of the 15th Wing of the Air Force which guarantees, 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, 365 days a year, without interruption, the search and rescue of the crews of flight in difficulty, also contributing to activities of public utility such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of patients in danger of life and the rescue of seriously injured persons, operating in any weather condition. From its constitution to today, the crews of the 365 ° Stormo have saved more than 15 people in danger of life.
