The climax between Russia and the United States on the Syrian question tense

The tones between Russia and the US remain on the issue of "Syria" despite the embryonic agreement between Putin and Trump.

On November 11, the presidents of Russia and the United States published a joint statement on the conflict in Syria, a rare occurrence given the complexity of relations between Washington and Moscow. "No military solution" and support for a "political solution" through the "Geneva process" under the auspices of the United Nations, they declared.

Moscow's double veto on Thursday and last Friday, at the United Nations Security Council against an American resolution to extend the mandate of international experts investigating chemical weapons in Syria, however, exacerbated a climate that was already tight.

On the one hand, the Russians explain: "The Americans say that the Russians are committed to moving Iran and its allies from the Israeli and Jordanian borders, but the Russians reply that the Americans have not understood anything." On the other, the United States affirms: "Russia demonstrates that it is neither reliable nor credible in the process towards a political solution in Syria, Russia has once again given priority to the protection of the Assad regime".

These statements are definitely a signal that questions the benefits that could have arisen following the joint statement of last November 11 between the two super powers.
