Emergency medical transport: life-saving flight for a newborn from Lamezia Terme to Rome

The little patient of only one day of life boarded on a Falcon 900 of the 31 ° Stormo arrived in the evening at Rome Ciampino airport

The mission of a Falcon 900 of the 31st Wing of the Air Force with on board a very small patient of just one day of life for which emergency medical transport was necessary from the Hospital of Catanzaro has just ended " Pugliese Ciaccio ”at the Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital in Rome.

The life-saving flight, requested by the Prefecture of Catanzaro, was immediately coordinated by the Situation Room at the Summit of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also that of arranging and managing this type of missions through the activation of one of the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, in various bases, for this kind of need.

The aircraft, which took off from Ciampino airport today, reached Lamezia Terme airport where, in compliance with the precautionary measures connected to the Covid-19 health emergency, it boarded the very small patient. The Falcon 900 then landed at Rome Ciampino airport where the baby was transferred to the Roman pediatric hospital.

This is the second air rescue mission in favor of small, life-threatening patients carried out this weekend. The Air Force flight departments are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger to life, but also to organs, medical teams or ambulances.
