Urgent medical transport: ambulance flight for a newborn just 18 days old

Protected by the thermal cradle, the newborn was transferred with a Falcon 50 of the 31st Wing of the Ciampino Air Force.

The life-saving flight with an 18-day-old baby on board ended in the early afternoon of today who, in imminent danger of life, was urgently transported from Cagliari to Ciampino (RM) with an Air Force Falcon 50 aircraft Military.

The little patient was embarked inside a thermal cradle on the military aircraft belonging to the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force, accompanied by both parents and specialized medical personnel.

The request for transport from the Duilio Casula Polyclinic - Cagliari university hospital to the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome, as required by the emergency procedures, was received from the Cagliari Prefecture at the Top Situation Room of the Air Force Command, the room operative of the Air Force which has among its functions that of arranging and managing this type of mission in favor of citizens.

The newborn was immediately transferred by ambulance to the "Bambino Gesù" Pediatric Hospital in the capital.

Crews and transport aircraft of the Air Force are ready day and night, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day to ensure, where requested and deemed necessary for reasons of urgency, the medical transport of people in imminent danger of life, transport medical bodies or teams.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
