Unesco, Minister Azzolina participates in the World Summit on Education

The Minister of Education, Lucia Azzolina, participated today, by videoconference, at the World Summit on Education organized by UNESCO in collaboration with Ghana, Norway and the United Kingdom. The event, which was attended by 13 Heads of State and Government, more than 60 Ministers of Education, as well as the heads of various international organizations starting with the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the Director General of UNESCO , Audrey Azoulay, took place with the aim of renewing the commitment to collaborate together to overcome the educational crisis caused by the pandemic, agreeing on the priorities for action to be implemented by 2021. The Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, sent their own message of support for the initiative.

“The crisis we have experienced - underlined the Minister - has put us to the test, has brought out the weaknesses of our educational systems, but also their ability to react. Now we have a unique opportunity: we can capitalize on the efforts made to make our education systems even more resilient, innovative and inclusive - continued the Minister -. I am also firmly convinced that, in order to avoid damage to the learning of an entire generation, we must do everything to keep our schools open, ensuring the safety of our citizens and, at the same time, the right to education ”.

At the end, the Ministers adopted a GEM (Global Education Meeting) Declaration which reaffirmed the need to continue investing in the Education chapter, in the current moment of crisis, also to prevent millions of children from dropping out of school. and kids at a disadvantage. Investing in education, the final document recalls, also has an impact on economies and society in general.
