Franco-German summit, with a half-merkel

The traditional Franco-German summit that will take place in the castle of Meseberg, near the German capital, this year sees a Merkel in difficulty, under siege in Germany over the issue of migrants. German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer threatens an internal political crisis if not all migrants are brought back to the border. Merkel and Macron have planned a meeting of about four hours to establish a road map in view of the European Council on 28 and 29 June. The migration dossier is the priority at this time. "We do not think that a national solution can regulate these difficulties" affirms the Elysée commenting on the line that will be adopted. The two European leaders will then talk about the new Italian government, after both have met Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. Also on the table is the reform of the euro zone, with Macron who will be forced to review some of his proposals, such as that of a common finance minister. Among the topics there will also be that of Foreign and Common Defense policy, the policy of welcoming migrants, cooperation in research and technological innovation, in particular for artificial intelligence. The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, is also expected in Berlin, as the topics covered, in particular that of asylum policy, will be crucial at the European Council at the end of the month.
