The State Police, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Milan, carried out a precautionary custody order in prison and under house arrest, at the request of the prosecutors of the V Department, issued against 4 young Egyptian citizens - aged 19 and 20 years - seriously suspected of crimes of gang rape and aggravated robbery.
The policemen of the Flying Squad have developed the investigative activity on the episodes of gang violence committed against some girls on New Year's Eve 2022, on the occasion of the celebrations in Piazza Duomo in Milan. Last January, eleven days after the perpetration of the crimes, numerous searches were carried out between Milan and Turin and, subsequently, two arrests were made by the Public Prosecutor charged with two young men, one Italian of North African origin and one Egyptian, seriously suspected of the crime of gang sexual violence. The subsequent investigative findings led, between the months of February and May, to the execution of a precautionary custody order against two minors, again for group sexual violence, and one, for the same crime and for robbery, against an adult.
The continuation of the investigative activity, conducted by the State Police through the viewing of videos, the testimonies of the victims and people informed about the facts, the analysis of various social profiles of subjects involved or in any case present at the facts and further technical activities, it has made it possible to accurately reconstruct the various episodes of violence and to identify further subjects, always of North African origin, believed to be involved in the criminal actions.
Today's precautionary custody order concerns two episodes of group sexual violence: one committed near the statue dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II against two German girls and the other near a fast food restaurant in Piazza Duomo against two Italian girls in which two of the four recipients of the precautionary measure participated; on this occasion, in addition to the sexual violence, the robbery of the mobile phone and purse against one of the two girls was also carried out by the perpetrators of the violence.
