Washington and Seoul, STOP to military exercises

The Pentagon has announced that the United States and South Korea have suspended indefinitely two joint exercises programs as a demonstration of support for diplomatic negotiations with North Korea.

"To support the implementation of the results of the summit in Singapore, and in coordination with our ally, South Korea, Secretary Mattis has suspended the selected exercises indefinitely," these are the words of spokeswoman Dana White.

After the historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12, it was President Donald Trump himself who pledged to renounce joint military exercises with South Korea, where thousands of American soldiers are stationed to defend it from the threats of Korea's North.

Suspended exercises include "The Guardian of Freedom" and training exercises with the Korean Navy planned for the coming months. The Trump-Kim Summit in Singapore on June 12 ended with North Korea's pledge to move towards "complete denuclearization".
