A saving of around 10 million euros is expected for some services

The draft inter-ministerial decree, to be issued together with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, relating to the identification of functional services for interception operations and the determination of the relative tariffs, was sent to the competent parliamentary committees.

These are those services (interceptions between present, video-filming, monitoring of an IT nature) that are not carried out by telecommunication operators, as the physical location of the collection is outside their domain.

The working group, set up by the Ministry of Justice to verify the conditions of savings in compliance with the service standards to be ensured by the judicial offices, conducted a complex activity of reconnaissance, analysis and data processing to adjust the costs of services, linking them to those currently supported by sector operators.

For most of the services, a fixed amount has not been established, but a range between a minimum and a maximum, in compliance with the provisions of the law, according to which the rate for each type of service must not exceed the average cost recorded at the five district centers with the highest rate of spending on wiretapping.

In 2019 the legal expenditure for the interception of conversations and communications amounted to 191.012.271 euros. Through the application of the new price list, savings are estimated at around ten million.
