Saudi Arabia towards nuclear power. The reactors will be built by Russia

Mohammed bin Salman (Mbs), Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, intends to diversify the kingdom's energy strategy, including nuclear power. Bin Salman, through the Saudi PressAgency, has announced that a nuclear reactor will be built. In this way, the start of one of the seven strategic projects for the development of the country which also concern renewable energy, water desalination, genetic medicine and the aerospace industry will become concrete.

The kingdom plans to build 17,6 Gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2032, around 16-17 reactors, surpassing € 70 billion in investment.

In this way, Arabia wants to reduce the amount of crude oil it uses for electricity production, so that it can sell more abroad. Most likely, he will rely on Russian technology for the construction of the reactors. The Russian state-owned company Rosatom, in fact, has already announced that it could build a nuclear power plant in Arabia, with the possibility of expanding the project up to four power plants.

Alexey Likhachev, the general manager of Rosatom is confident of reaching an agreement with the Saudis within the 2020.
