After Brexit, May points to the African market

With the aim of building a new business relationship with the largest African economy, Theresa May, British Prime Minister, has invited Nigeria to take advantage of the financial expertise of the City of London.

With Britain ready to leave the European Union next March, May will participate in a tour in Africa hoping to strengthen ties with the rapidly growing economies of Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.

In an interview given to journalists at Abuja airport before heading to the commercial capital of Nigeria, Lagos, May said: "We offer ... the important ability to access the capital markets of the City of London, together with professional skills in services, I can not wait to see further rich investments in Nigeria, creating jobs for the Nigerians and the good people of Great Britain ".

Building on existing economic and defense cooperation agreements previously signed with Nigeria's president Muhammadu Buhari, May added, "We have long-standing relations with Nigeria and close trade ties. There are English companies that have been here in Nigeria for many, many years. We want to improve those commercial ties ".

"I think there are real opportunities as we leave the European Union," said May, who is struggling at home to unite his conservative party divided on his plans to leave the EU.

The interest in reinvigorating the settlement network and increasing trade was known since last April, when Britain hosted a meeting of Commonwealth countries, including South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.
