Fire Libya, Minister Moavero met Haftar

Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi and Marshall Khalifa Haftar met in Benghazi in a long and cordial conversation that has re-launched the close relationship with Italy in a climate of consolidated trust. Between the two there was a broad convergence for an intense cooperation and on the common commitment to a united and stable Libya, it is specified in a note.

Italy - stressed Minister Moavero - attaches great importance to maintaining an active dialogue with all those who look to the future of Libya with loyal friendship, in the open interest of its people and its full self-determination. Libyan citizens must be enabled to exercise their sovereignty and be free to decide their own destiny. The political process started must be completed, in particular, through ordered and transparent elections, which take place in conditions of adequate security.

For his part, Marshal Haftar expressed to Minister Moavero his appreciation for Italy's foreign policy commitment, considered essential for Libya, thanks also to the varied and articulated initiatives and proposals that characterize it. Marshal Haftar added that he was ready to make his contribution to actively support security, stabilization and dialogue in the country, for the benefit of all Libyans.

The process of national reconciliation, in compliance with the framework set by the UN, will find a new stage in the conference 'for Libya' that Italy is available to host in November.

During the meeting, Minister Moavero and Marshal Haftar also addressed the other issues of mutual interest. In particular, they reviewed the ways in which to intensify collaboration in the humanitarian field and strengthen the fight against terrorism and traffickers of all kinds, as well as to the exploiters of human beings.
