Jan Kubis, condemns the attack in Tikrit

Jan Kubis, UN special envoy in Iraq, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the wounded, condemned the terrorist attack carried out yesterday in Tikrit, about 200 kilometers north of Baghdad.

The attack, which caused the death of 5 people and injured 32, was also condemned by Iraqi President Fuad Masoum, calling the attack a "brutal criminal act" that "increases the determination of the Iraqi people to intensify their efforts to eliminate the terrorists ".

Masoum, calling on the security authorities to take "urgent and decisive measures to avoid similar attacks in the future" then assured that "This crime will not go unpunished".

According to local police, it seems that alleged members of the Islamic State have placed a bomb on a vehicle parked outside the restaurant that is located along an important thoroughfare in Hajjaj.

The deflagration occurred at lunchtime, affecting a restaurant that housed some travelers who left Baghdad and went to Dohuk, in the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan. Women and children are among the injured.

From the data released by the UN assistance mission in Iraq, last month, 90 civilians were killed and other 117 wounded in the course of armed conflicts and attacks in the country.
