Red-yellow government at the edge of the maneuver, the Maneuver in Brussels tonight

(by Massimiliano D'Elia) Yesterday a council of ministers was scheduled in the late evening: black smoke. There are so many disputes registered within the majority so much so that the "last chance" meeting of the council of ministers has been fixed for this evening at 21 pm. because at 23.39 pm the “dead line” falls to send the text of the Italian economic maneuver to Brussels.

The main issue is the firm position taken by Italia Viva on the abolition of quota 100. Luigi Di Maio, on the other hand, argues that it is a measure that must not be touched. Also Di Maio yesterday afternoon also said no to the hypothesis of a single window, which represents the minimum wage for the Renzians. The single window is also on the agenda of the Minister of Economy Roberto Gualtieri. Because the savings it would bring with it, almost 700 million in the first year and more than a billion in the second, are essential to raise the resources for the desired cut in the tax wedge to 3 billion in 2020 and 6 billion from 2021. Resources that are also needed for the single fund for the family.

Another issue is the cutting of selective deductions for incomes above 100-120 thousand euros, in this regard the Italia Viva disagreement is noted, which also disagrees with the increase in excise duties on diesel.

Green light, however, for the sugar tax which could be set at 0,6-0,7 euros per kg and which could be worth around 250 million a year.

More money could come from the measures being studied to combat tax evasion, lowering the threshold of punishment. In reality, as Il Sole 24Ore writes, tax crimes punishable by imprisonment already exist (they are foreseen by the 74 legislative decree of the 2000), and the thresholds that trigger the crime have been raised in the 2015 by the Renzi government. The same that has returned the ceiling for cash payments to 3 thousand.

Also yesterday was good news for the renewal of public employee contracts which would amount to 3,175 billion in funding over the years: For 2020 only 300 million more, from 1,4 to 1,7 billion.

The deficit should reach 14,4 billion, with additional resources (5-5,5 billion) resulting from the anti-evasion package, the spending review (2 billion) and the review of the tax expenditures.
