Colombian palm tree farmers see trade reasons behind EU oil restriction

epa08220222 A worker organizes several oil palm fruits, in Maria La Baja, Colombia, 14 February 2020 (issued 15 February 2020). Colombian palm oil producers believe there are ‘commercial reasons’ behind the restrictions that the European Union (EU) and Norway have imposed on biofuels produced with that resource, claiming they do not come from clean crops and they cause deforestation. The EU is planning to phase out palm oil in biofuels by 2030. EPA/RICARDO MALDONADO ROZO
