An infant of just a month in imminent danger of life was rushed this morning from Catania to Ciampino on board a Falcon 900 aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo dell'Aeronautica Militare.
The little patient, protected in a thermal cradle, was then transferred to an ambulance in Rome to be admitted to the "Bambino Gesù" hospital.
The request for transport, as happens in these cases, was received by the Prefecture of Catania at the Situation Room at the Summit of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also to organize and manage this kind of interventions in favor of the population.
The Situation Room of Vertice has therefore activated a Falcon 900, one of the assets that the Armed Forces holds 24 hours on 24 for this kind of necessity, which took off at 09: 00 from the Ciampino base.
After landing in Catania, the thermal cradle with the little patient was loaded on the aircraft, accompanied by his father and a medical team for assistance during the flight.
Departing from the Sicilian city, around noon the plane landed at Ciampino airport, where the thermal cradle was transferred to the ambulance for the subsequent transport to the "Bambino Gesù" hospital.
Missions of this type need maximum timeliness. Through its Flight Departments, the Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready to take off at any time and able to operate in any meteorological condition to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, as happened today , but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Every year thousands of flight times are carried out by the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino, the 14 ° Stormo di Pratica di Mare and the 46a Pisa Air Brigade, always on the front lines in the event of an emergency.
