Navy: Presented the first results of the campaign conducted by Nave Alliance

On Wednesday 20 September at 10.00, the preliminary results of the campaign conducted by Nave Alliance under the coordination of the Hydrographic Institute of the Navy will be presented to the press at the Central Library of the Navy General Staff, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Roberta Pinotti. The event will be attended by the Chief of Defense Staff, General Claudio Graziano and the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral Valter Girardelli.

In addition to the Captain of the Navy Luigi Sinapi, Director of the Marine Hydrographic Institute, which has assured the scientific coordination of the activities, will be present representatives of all the most important national research organizations (CNR, OGS, ENEA) who participated in the campaign , as well as NATO's Center for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE).

After nearly 90 years, the Navy returned to Artide with the "High North 17 Campaign", carrying out a scientific research mission at sea and, thanks to the Hydrographic Institute, as a reference point and touring for scientific research in the polar sectors.

The High North 17 campaign was born from Italy's growing involvement in Artico, thanks to Alliance's ability to operate in polar regions and to synergies between national scientific resources, capable of transforming research into concrete results.

The Alliance vessel research activities began in Reykjavik on July 9 and ended the 29 July in Tromso, and affected unexplored areas south of the Svalbard Islands with a 650 km2 kitten extension and allowed the acquisition of marine geophysical data related to the atmosphere, water masses, the bottom and the marine background.

The Navy, whose task is to safeguard the areas of national interest, sees in the possible new commercial routes that could open to the North, an element of interest to protect the safety of navigation as well as geostrategic and partner aspects - economics that this could have on our country.

Climate change and global warming are a major international challenge, and in this context, Arctic plays a key role in its "engine" climate characteristics on the planet. The marine sector and sustainable development at sea are crucial factors to be focused on future prospects related to the blue economy, especially for our country, with a strong propensity towards the sea and a natural maritime connotation.
