11 dead soldiers, attack Isis Academy in Kabul

Eleven soldiers died in the attack on the Afghan Military Academy in Kabul which was claimed by the Islamic State. It is the third attack in ten days in the city, after the one against a hotel on January 20 and after the explosion of an ambulance in the center on Saturday, not to mention the attack on Save The Children in Jalalabad. The presidency had decreed a public holiday for Monday to "take care of the victims" of the massacre that took place on Saturday, in which 100 people died and 235 others were injured. The attack, claimed by the Taliban, was one of the worst in recent years in the city. Just a week earlier, the Intercontinental hotel had been attacked, where at least 22 people had died, including 14 foreigners.

The alert has remained at its highest for ten days, according to various Western security sources, who fear new attacks. Foreigners in particular have been targeted by threats, as have the places they frequent and most embassies and international institutions, which have been 'locked down' or subjected to severe security measures and restrictions. In the latest attack in Kabul, the toll provided by the Defense Ministry speaks of 11 people killed and 16 injured. ISIS and the Taliban have increased their offensive in recent days, and it was the Islamic State that claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq propaganda service, via Telegram.

A spokesman for the ministry specified that two suicide bombers blew themselves up, two others were killed by the security forces, one was arrested. The target was the Afghan Military Academy Marshall Marshall Fahim, a 40-hectare facility west of Kabul. It had already been hit by an attack last October, when 15 young recruits were killed by a suicide bomber who threw himself on foot against the bus on which they were leaving the academy. Under normal conditions, a teacher explains, there are at least 4 thousand people in the academy, but today the number was much lower because the day was declared a holiday.
