Cambridge Analytica may have also acted in Italy

The president of the authority for the protection of personal data Antonello Soro was interviewed on Radio Radicale on the Cambridge Analytica issue and the likelihood that even in Italy there had been an involvement of the British company in the recent political elections.

In his interview, Soro says he has no elements to say whether it happened in Italy as well and who is the recipient of this campaign to win back the voters and enlargement in some way vitiated by consensus, however it is possible and being possible we cannot be surprised if these channels are used to search for consent as well as in the USA, England or other parts of the world".

On the website of the Cambridge Analytic we read that the company in the 2012 has realized a project for an Italian party that was reborn, a party that had been successful for the last time in the eighties, and used the data of past members of this party with potential sympathizers and has suggested to this party to adopt reforms that have allowed to obtain results far exceeding expectations at a time of great political turbulence in Italy.

If it had been verified that this really happened, would the legitimacy of the electoral result in Italy be questioned?

"There's never a return, Soro replied, the moment of voting in any democracy is a solemn moment which is not revocable, you can revoke your consent in subsequent elections, but not use this information to delegitimize who has been elected. The Trump story teaches that among other things, citizens do not appreciate all this news that comes out the next day. A reputational sanction can be given, as happened with Fb yesterday. If tomorrow it turns out that an Italian party has used Cambridge Analytica to send somehow selective and personalized profiling messages to its voters, telling it to all Italian voters, I think that the reputation of these parties would lose something.
