Monreale a precious eighteenth century canvas, stolen in Corleone in 1970

The State Police of Palermo will officially return to the Diocese of Monreale a precious canvas, stolen from the Corleonese community in 1970. The restitution will take place in the premises of the “Corleone” PS Commissariat, in the context of a ceremony that will see the local authorities present. The painting, depicting Maria SS. del Lume, dating back to the XNUMXth century and by an unknown artist, until the day of his death, occupied one of the two side altars of the Chapel of the Holy Spirit of the Ospedale dei Bianchi, placed in front of a second "twin" canvas, from the same period and by the same author, still existing and kept in the Mother Church of Corleone. After many years, the policemen of the Corleonese Commissariat have recovered the canvas in good condition.

The delivery of the work of art will be made to the Archbishop of Monreale Mons. Michele PENNISI, as ordered by a proxy of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Termini Imerese.

The finding and restitution of the painting are acts of legality that reaffirm the presence of the state and its authority, capable of allowing the Corleonese community to regain possession of part of their history.
