Abdel Fatah al Sisi plans an official visit to the "supergiant" field of Zohr

According to the Nova agency, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al Sisi will go next Wednesday, January 31, to visit the Zohr supergiant gas field, discovered by Eni in the waters of the Eastern Mediterranean in 2015. For the head of state it will be a symbolic inauguration of the field started by Eni at the end of 2017.

The Italian company, in fact, announced on 20 December that it had started production in less than 2 and a half years, a record time for this type of field. "The launch of Zohr is the result of our skills, our capacity for technological innovation and our tenacity in pursuing objectives, even the most complex ones, and we must be very proud of this", said the CEO of Eni at the time. , Claudio Descalzi. The discovery, which is located in the Shorouk block, offshore Egypt about 190 kilometers north of Port Said, has a potential of more than 850 billion cubic meters of gas in place (about 5,5 billion barrels of equivalent oil).

Zohr represents the largest gas discovery ever made in Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea and will be able to meet part of the Egyptian demand for natural gas for the next few decades. Eni owns a stake of 60 percent in the Shorouk concession, Rosneft the 30 percent and Bp the 10 percent.

The company is co-operator of the project through Petrobel, jointly owned by Eni and by the state company Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (Egpc), on behalf of Petroshorouk, a company jointly owned by Eni and the state company Egyptian Natural Gas holding Company ( It's gas).

Eni is present in Egypt from 1954, where it operates through the subsidiary Ieoc Production BV. The company is the main producer of the country with a production of about 230 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day.
