Air Force: child in imminent danger transported by ambulance on board a C-130J

Departing from the Pisa base, the aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade allowed the rescue vehicle, carrying the small patient, to arrive more quickly from Bari to the "Bambino Gesù" hospital in Rome

The C-19J tactical transport aircraft that brought a 4-year-old boy from Bari to Rome in imminent danger of life landed at Ciampino airport shortly after 130 pm on Friday 6 August.

Made available by the Air Force at the request of the Prefecture of Bari to the COA (Aerospace Operations Command), the C-130J of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa allowed the ambulance to be loaded directly, with the little patient and the team on board medicine, and to considerably shorten the travel times from the Bari Polyclinic to the “Bambino Gesù” Hospital in Rome.

The aircraft took off from the Pisa airport after the military crew had carried out all the necessary procedures, and headed for the Bari airport where it embarked on the vehicle for emergency medical transport. After landing at Ciampino Airport, the ambulance continued its journey to the "Bambino Gesù" pediatric hospital in Rome. The C-130J instead returned to Pisa, becoming immediately available for possible new activations.

The 46th Air Brigade of Pisa is one of the Air Force Departments that carries out the operational readiness service for this kind of missions, together with the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia. The Flight Departments are in fact available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life , but also organs, medical teams or ambulances.
