Aeronautica Militare: newborn child in imminent danger of life transported urgently from Sardinia

The child was transported to Rome on a Falcon 900 of the 31 ° Stormo

Today morning, Wednesday 24 July, a one-month-old baby, in imminent danger of life, was transported with the utmost urgency from Cagliari to Ciampino, aboard a Falcon 900 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force.

The child was boarded on the aircraft in a thermal cradle, accompanied by his mother and under the constant supervision of a specialist medical team. Upon landing in Ciampino, which took place around 12, after an hour of flight, the child was immediately transferred by ambulance to the “Bambino Gesù” hospital in Rome.

The request for transport was received by the Prefecture of Cagliari at the Situation Room at the Summit of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which, among its functions, also has that of arranging and managing this type of missions for the population.

To carry out the mission, the Summit Situation Room ordered the urgent take-off of a Falcon 900, one of the Air Force aircraft ready 24 hours a day for this type of service. The aircraft departed from Ciampino to Cagliari, from where it then took off, once the little patient boarded, around 24:10 am.

Through its Flight Departments, the Italian Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready to take off at any time to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, as happened today, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa.
