The air rescue carried out with the Falcon 900 aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino for the urgent transport of a newborn from Alghero, in Sardinia, to Rome has just been completed.

The baby, born yesterday and immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital (AOU) of Sassari, needed to receive urgent and life-saving specialist care, which is why the immediate intervention of the Air Force aircraft was essential. Military.

The flight, requested by the Prefecture of Sassari, was immediately arranged and coordinated by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also that of activating and managing urgent medical transport, giving the order to take off to the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, in various bases, for this kind of need.

The Falcon 900, which took off from Ciampino airport and landed at Alghero airport around 17:30 pm, embarked the little patient in a special thermal cradle, assisted by a medical team. The aircraft then resumed its journey back to Ciampino, where it landed after about an hour. At this point the child was transferred by ambulance to the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome. The crew of the 31 ° Stormo subsequently resumed operational readiness service.

Missions of this type cannot be separated from maximum timeliness, guaranteed by meticulous organization and well-established procedures. The Air Force flight departments are available to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, often children, but also of organs for transplants, medical teams or, as in the case of the C130J aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, also of ambulances.
