Aeronautica Militare, life-saving flight: 3-month-old baby transported from Trieste to Rome

The emergency medical transport in favor of a 3-month-old girl, in imminent danger of life, was carried out on board a Falcon 900 of the Italian Air Force

A Falcon 900 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force has just completed an emergency medical transport mission in favor of a small patient of only 3 months who needed to be transferred from the "Burlo Garofolo" hospital in Trieste to the pediatric hospital " Infant Jesus ”of Rome.

The Falcon 900, which took off from Rome Ciampino airport shortly after 12.00, arrived at Ronchi dei Legionari airport where, in compliance with the precautionary measures connected to the Covid-19 health emergency, it boarded the child who traveled with his mother and a medical team who took care of his health care during the flight. The military aircraft landed in Rome Ciampino around 15.00 where it resumed its operational readiness service.

The life-saving flight, requested by the Prefecture of Trieste, was immediately coordinated by the Top Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also that of arranging and managing this type of missions through the activation of one of the aircraft that the Armed Force keeps ready, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for this kind of need.

Through its flight departments, the Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready to take off at any time and able to operate even in marginal weather conditions to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa.
