Emergency medical transport concluded for a life-threatening newborn

The flight of the Falcon 50 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force has just ended, transporting a one-day-old girl in imminent danger of life. The transport, which took place with the utmost urgency from Alghero to Ciampino, ended with the hospitalization of the little patient in the “Bambino Gesù” hospital in Rome.

The Falcon 50, one of the assets that the Air Force keeps ready every day and at any time for urgent medical transport, took off from Ciampino airport to embark the newborn in Alghero together with a medical team who ensured her assistance during the flight. Departed from the Sardinian city shortly before 14:00, the plane landed at Ciampino airport around 14:30, from where the little patient was transferred by ambulance to the hospital.

The medical flight was activated, at the request of the Prefecture of Sassari, from the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which deals, among other things, with the coordination of this kind of activity in favor of of the civilian population throughout the national territory.

Through its Flight Departments, the Italian Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready to take off at any time and able to operate even in complex weather conditions to ensure urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, as happened today, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this kind of intervention by the aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino, of the 14 ° Stormo of Pratica di Mare and of the 46a Air Brigade of Pisa.
